After sewing like a madwoman, I was able to enjoy the fruits of my refashioning labors while traveling around town in the beautiful fall weather this weekend. First up-- a Converse dress that I bought on clearance for just $7. I love the ikat stripes, but the pre-teen sundress shape on my womanly body always made me look pregnant. So I turned it into a skirt:
Much better! The a-line shape is super flattering.
Next is a dip-dyed linen dress from the Gap that I bought while I was in Washington for $5. {They were having a sale on the clearance items.} I could see its potential, despite the fact that it was a size 14 and I was swimming in it. After chopping off a bunch of fabric and taking it in, I felt ladylike and ready for a harvest-time picnic:
Last is a dress I bought from the custom-clothing online boutique, eShakti {I had a $20 off coupon}. I ordered this dress with 3/4 sleeves and a deep neckline, but didn't like any of the color choices. So I opted for white and then dyed it with two boxes of RIT dye in Kelly Green and Dark Green.
What about you? Any favorite refashioning tricks?
The dresses and YOU look great! You are so talented. I'm very jealous.
ReplyDeleteYou've got vision!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE ALL THREE. So much. They are so, so cute. I looooooove the green one. You are just so darling in them all. I would like to say that you are an inspiration, but you're not. Because I don't think I could ever do stuff that awesome (or especially look as great in my creations). So let's just say I'm inspired to develop my own talents...
ReplyDeleteI am dying over all three outfits. But it's not just the refashioning - it's the way you've styled each one with a sassy sweater or killer heels or a great belt. You've got vision. I've got no sewing skills. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are all amazing but that green dress is making me crazy jealous. Super cute. Of course I think that it looks particularly awesome on you, You can pull it off like no other. As always, inspiring.
ReplyDeleteLove the outcomes, and love the hair! You're awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe green dress is AMAZING!!! Next time we go to Antique Sugar (which NEEDS to be soon!), you'll have to get a crinoline for underneath it. It would just be so dreamy!! And pair it with some white gloves.... bliss! And don't even get me started on those shoes!!!! hubba hubba!
ReplyDeleteOH my word you are talented! I am awe struck at how you were able to sew all these pretty dresses from clearance rack items.
ReplyDeleteand your not fat, your beautiful and I wish I weighed as much as you do
xoxo
Would you mind doing a post about using RIT dye. The dying process, washing and care afterwards, etc. THANKS!
ReplyDeleteHopefully this posts! I always try to comment then my phone eats them or kicks me off:( okay...GIRRRRLLL! These are fierce refashions! My refashion tricks are for you to do them for me:) I see you bought those HOT leopard heels! Way to go! I can't stop commenting! This is BEYOND! You are one spicy Mama!
ReplyDeleteYou are seriously amazing! I would never be brave enough to try any of these :-)!
ReplyDeleteFabulous darling Melancholy. I could never wear that green comfortably but on you it is smashing. I just wore Dragonflys refashioned black and white polka dot skirt to church this past Sunday, she's refashioned a few things and has done a very fine job. I guess I should have taught her how to sew.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! You're so talented!
ReplyDeleteCool. I especially like that you're not scared of taking the refashioning leap. That's a big leap for me, so it's nice to live vicariously through your sparkling efforts!
ReplyDeleteAbout the RIT dye-- I'm a novice, but there are some great tutorials out there. I think Jon and Sherry did one recently on Young House Love. I just followed the directions on the box for dying in the washing machine and then freaked out when I ironed the dress later and it changed colors! (it went back to normal as it cooled down. ) good luck!
