After some of the comments on my recent post about music, I thought it would be nice to share a list of songs I currently enjoy. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that almost all of my music comes from J. I was a musical virgin when he and I met, {I think he would have preferred it if I'd been able to wax poetic about The Smiths, but a blank slate was better than a country music fan.} and luckily, we both share a penchant for mellow, slightly sullen sounds. He's educated me well. So, why not go straight to the source? Please welcome J!
When my wife offered for me to guest blog and share some music how could I refuse? She is too beautiful to deny. While it is an honor to share some of my playlists, it does feel like I am exposing my soul. Please excuse my vulnerability.
Music is a huge part of my life. One of my earliest memories is of using my older brother's stereo without permission and listening to his records. I loved the crackle of the needle. But this playlist is not made up of those songs. If there is enough interest, I may do another Music Weekend post and we can start at the beginning.
I would say most of these songs are from the past 10 years or so with the exception of a few of my core songs from the 1980's by New Order and The Smiths. These are the moody and emotional songs that pull at my soul and inspire me. I am a visual person and I often find myself dreaming or lost in thought when listening to music. I first hear the rhythms and sounds, often ignoring the lyrics. That is what hooks me first. It transplants me to a movie scene in my mind with hopes that one day I will create that moment. It is often the music I hear first before I go and shoot some video. It is then in the editing that the magic of music and the visual mix. I love that moment.
enjoy,

I'm excited about this post! But where do I find the list....?
Great list. This is a mix of some of my favorite bands (Mates, Smiths, Vampire Weekend) and plenty of bands I'm not super familiar with as well. I too am a music person. While some people look at other people's bookshelves or TV shows as a means of bonding or finding common ground, for me it's always been "so what do you listen to?"
WOW, thanks J! What a fabulous selection of music!
