By the Numbers

While we were in New York, I noticed that many of the restaurants and food stands included calories next to the menu items. This was both enlightening and horrifying. Especially when I saw how unhealthy my favorite peanuts really were. Still, I wish the eateries around here would follow suite. How about you? Is ignorance bliss or would you rather make an informed choice?

They made it a law in NY about a year or two ago. I really wish they would do it here in the West as well. You can find a lot of that info online, though, now--so if you are willing to do the research ahead of time... (but really who wants to do that?).

I think it's brilliant! I wish they would require it at ALL food establishments nationwide. Between that and a nationwide in restaurant smoking ban... life eating out would be GREAT! We try to make informed choices - but it's not always easy.....

Love it! Ignorance is bliss until suddenly you've gained 10 pounds.
They really need that in NY since no one has time to exercise or cook and, therefore, they all eat out for just about every meal. NYers are chubby.

I so totally do not want to know! I have a good idea what to order if I'm going for healthy; and if I'm not, I really don't need a sign berating my conscience - that would spoil the whole experience!

I think that's cool. I would like it, for sure, but that's mostly because I don't do a lot of snacking from vendors so it would only be occasionally. Now if my brownies started coming out of the oven with their nutritional value listed I would be a lot less thrilled. (or the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake from Smitten Kitchen that I made yesterday and I'm sure might just kill me. I seriously have to hold myself back so I can make it last three days)
