Temper, temper

I had a late meeting last night, and as it ended I mentioned that the best thing about having meetings when I'm tired and morning/night sick is that I don't have to suffer through the whole bedtime routine with the kids.

Recently, the bedtime routine has become increasingly trying. E staunchly refuses to get pajamas on, brush his teeth, come for prayer, stay in his room, leave the lights off and just stop screaming for heaven's sake! L, perhaps feeding off of all the chaos, has become the Houdini of diapers. Within five minutes of putting him to bed, he's managed to strip down naked and have some kind of smelly accident, forcing us to give a bath, do a load of laundry, and go through the goodnight routine all over again.

It's exhausting, especially after we've already had a long day and patience is short.

So I probably shouldn't have been surprised when I came home and found a huge hole in the boy's bedroom door.

Apparently, E had run away when told it was time for pajamas. He had to be dragged from behind the sofa, up the stairs and then into the bedroom. While J was then busy getting clean sheets for the bed, E slammed the door and locked it from the inside. J couldn't find the key. He banged on the door and bellowed for E to unlock it, but E hid and refused to answer.

So Jared decided to kick his way in.

I can't help but chuckle when I think of how terrified E probably was, watching his daddy kick a hole in the door a la Jack in The Shining.

Maybe that'll teach him to go to bed on time. :)

Ha! You'll never forget that one, and I'm sure your boys won't either! You'll have to let us know if bedtime all of a sudden is so much better from now on...;)

since we switched to cloth diapers (with snaps!) we have had way less diaper-discarding. those snaps are much trickier to get off!

I love it, and I am super jealous because I can see you have the ikea rug I want and is never in stock up here ;)

That hole is shaped like the state of Michigan. I shouldn't be laughing but I am; I don't miss those kind of nights at all. Hang in there young parents, it's all worth it.

Fun! A door with a window in it! My kids would love it.

I have tremendous respect for those with the ability to parent and keep some modicum of humor about them.

This story made me grin from ear to ear.
