Christmas Table

As luck would have it, each and every one of my children have taken ill this week. I spent my home-bound time last evening doing a test run setting of our table for Christmas Eve Dinner.

This is our first time hosting for the Holiday, and I decided to make it formal. {J's family is usually pretty casual}. While admittedly I'm very minimalist, I'd still like to inject the black, white and silver table with as much understated elegance as possible.

At the moment, it's still a little too minimal. I think I'll be adding a champagne glass to each setting {for sparkling cider. The wine goblet is actually for ice water.} and maybe a snowflake mobile above the table like in this Crate & Barrel photo:

or a graduated table runner {using black, grey, silver and white paper} inspired by this:

Thoughts?

Bravo to you for being productive while the wee ones are sicko! The table is classy and simple. It is soothing. Are you in charge of cooking all the food too?

I like the idea of the gradual paper runner. And what about using pinecones for the mobile rather than snow flakes? or silver glittery twigs? just to keep with the theme you already have going.

I love it! This is just my style. By the way, I love your black chairs. Any chance you'll share where you got them so I can pick some up too?

This is fun to see because it is similar to what I am doing. I am using Silver white and gold tissue paper to make confetti snow. Your mom suggested I hang tinsel from the ceiling and I am going to begin experimenting with that today. Your table looks beautiful so far, I am sure whatever you do from here on out it will be beautiful.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I loooove the tinsel idea, Crys. And I'm going to experiment with the glittered twigs. Lauren-- the chairs are from Target.com. :)

My favorite color scheme indeed! The sparkling cider will add some color, maybe do sparkling grape for some Christmas red? But then the spills on the clean white are risky:). Well, send me some time and creativity if you have any left over! Looks beautiful.

Can't wait to see the end result. Especially the tinsel idea. I've never set my table before Christmas day. But your post has inspired me to change that this year. The food will add plenty of color.

Superb party decorations!! Those colorful swatches are looking fantastic. I really want to use this decoration idea in my cousin’s DIY engagement party that will be held at one of glorious space NYC venues.
