Glass Storage Jars

I've been dreaming of a pristinely organized pantry {like this one from the woman behind EmersonMade.} One with glass jars, vintage metal baskets, and enamel bins. Especially now that I'm doing so much cooking and baking. Wouldn't it be heartening to open the door to this every morning?

However, glass jars {and wire baskets, enamel bins, etc} can be expensive. I've been keeping my eyes open at thrift stores for interestingly shaped or large glass jars, saving and washing out spaghetti sauce jars, and collecting canning jars.

The smaller ones are easy to find, and economical choices are available at places like IKEA. The large ones are elusive and often cost upwards of $20 each. I wanted two {for my white and wheat flour} and was thus thrilled when I found these at Cost Plus World Market:

I can't find them online, but in the store they sell for $15 each. They are 12 inch tall, 2 gallon capacity jars and hold about two bags of flour {or a whole lot of freshly ground wheat flour!} Best of all, you can use this coupon to get $10 off of your $30 purchase, making them just $10 each.

Now to make some simple labels {I want something similar to this, but with frosted decals instead of etched glass} and I'll be well on my way towards finishing my pantry makeover!

How do you store pantry items? Did I miss any great resources?

Before I could dream of a pantry that looked that gorgeous, I'd have to have a pantry. What I have now is a pitiful tiny wisp of a closet that wouldn't even fit one of those large jars. Boo. I can't wait to see what you do with your pantry. I know it's going to knock my socks off!

Can't walk into our pantry...so it tends to be somewhat messy. But I did organize our miscellaneous utensil drawer this winter and that felt great! Have fun and share when you can.

I saw that top picture a few days ago and showed colt cause that is my dream. There was a few spice shelves on 'home made happy' that I made a mental note about but this one tops the chart. I love cooking and the thought of having a wall full of spices, different types of sugar and wheat, etc. Makes me want to just stay in my kitchen - oh yeah I already do ;) oh to build my home, or at least to own one. I'm done renting!

I found some great, big glass jars similar at Walmart when we first moved for pretty cheap, seeing as down south humidity and huge wandering cockroaches necessitate everything being in containers. Though now I would love to be able to afford matching, more stylish ones to fill a pantry...yes, I am using a flimsy cabinet in a rental home as well, so here's to someday!

Just saw this, so my comment is late to the game. When you were little I started asking the deli counter for their old pickle jars and it was one of the smartest things I ever did! At one time I had close to 50, but we moved so much I gave some to GG (which she still uses) and gave a bunch away. Not many people have them nowadays - everything switched to plastic. :/
