For a week, the kids have been chomping at the bit, begging me to start decorating for Halloween. With the flip of the calender to October, we finally dug the bins of fake gravestones, roaches, bones and spiders out of the garage.
The interesting thing about allowing kids to decorate with me is that I end up with completely fantastic vignettes that I would never have had otherwise. Magnified rats...
...roaches in test-tubes...
...and an ungodly number of skeletons hanging from the Halloween tree.
Even though it's still nearly triple digits outside, the addition of all these creepy-crawlies makes it feel as though autumn really is here.
E's big thing this year is that he wants things to "be more scary". :)
I'm not sure that we accomplished that, but I like his enthusiasm.
Time to watch our Halloween cartoons and bust out the apple cider!
Welcome, October!

So fun!!!
You inspire me :)
Oh that's awesome!! Glad you live far away so I can steal it all. I, too, would never have thought of the skeltons in the tree - love how it looks like the tree is eating them all. And that shadow bat? Totally the subtle horror I go for.
Classy spooky! The word "vignette" makes my heart go pitter pat.
ok, so now we really have to visit your house, if not to get inspired, at least to make it seem like it really is October despite the kids still swimming! They would go crazy! And reminds me, maybe we should plan at least some pumpkins or something!
Were you able to find the bat vinyls at Target again this year? I looked, but didn't see them. I'd love to have them again! (or did you re-use yours? Mine all ripped as we took them down)
