Lars and the Real Girl
The premise of Lars and the Real Girl (a lonely and awkward man orders a blow up doll and introduces her as his girlfriend) sounds like it would be uncomfortable to watch. We only gave it a try after it was nominated for an Oscar, and were surprised at how tender and funny it was. The psychological journey of both Lars and the towns people are both believable and completely engaging. In the end, I haven't been this attached to an inanimate object in a movie since Wilson the Volleyball.

just saw Lars and the Real Girl, had never even heard of the movie before last night; Ryan Gosling did a great job playing out his character's psychological transition from totally dysfunctional to somewhat functional... plus they left out the usual "small town drama", which was good
