Three Weeks

I think it's about time I started blogging again- at least more than one post a week. I feel like it's been a long absence, and I miss it.

My parents went home on Monday, and yesterday J started a job that requires him to be out of the house 8 hours a day for the next month. I'm reeling from the loss of helping hands. 4 children suddenly feel like a lot to handle-- lots of noise and arguments and needs and not enough of me to go around.

Yesterday, I snuck off for 10 minutes to take a shower and when I got out the baby was crying to the point of hysteria; L had found a tube of lipstick and smeared it into the carpet, baby blankets, and all over his face; and Little Miss C 'forgot' about homework and was fighting over the computer with E.

That was the first time I cried that day.

The second was when it became clear I wouldn't get a nap. I really needed a nap. Still do. *sigh*

At least the great thing about post-partum {as opposed to pregnancy} is that generally, every day is a little better. I get a little less fat, a little less tired, a little closer to normal.

Here's to one day closer to normal.

You're doing so great! You'll be showering and napping and running again in no time.

Just take it a day at a time, enjoy your newest little guy because he will grow and change so quickly as you well know and do try to rest whenever as possible. That little babe is adorable and chunking up nicely.

O.K. so there was this one time when my then 3 year found a tube of red lipstick and smeared it all over his face and his 2 year old sister's face, hid behind the toilet, then jumped up and said with glee "I'm the devil." Lipstick + child = memorable mothering moment.

Sleep deprivation is so very hard. Keep trying for those naps! You're doing fine!

Laughing at the "back to normal" comment - my husband and I say the same thing and then laugh - what is normal with 4 kids, including a newborn?!
he is adorable, by the way :)

I agree with monkey buisness, our norm is constantly changing. My kids offer new and exhausting challenges everyday and there are only 2 of them! Good luck! Love you, you are still in my prayers.

Your boys are all so handsome!! That littlest one, though; oh man. Those little soft legs. I love just feeling that sweet skin the whole time I'm nursing. It's the softest thing on the earth.

And I would have to say that I am a bit of a crier but probably one of the things I have cried the most over was when I realized I wasn't going to get a nap. It's a lot about the sleep but even more about how if you don't get it motherhood can be almost unbearable. Okay, fine, sometimes it can be all the way unbearable. Naps are a little like magic. They don't make you feel perfect, but they do allow you to deal with things that otherwise might break you.

I hope you get some sleep soon!!
