Nuances of Paint

Remember when I complained that I was going through all the agony of scrutinizing the subtle differences in paint chips, only to subject my favorite to the color-match machine at Home Depot? I wondered if there would actually be any difference and apparently.... there is. Above, you can see the first paint sample is the authentic Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. The sample below it is the color-matched version in Behr paint.

Luckily, it looks fabulous in my space. Honestly, I think I prefer it to the authentic Benjamin Moore paint. But that's just happy chance. It could have been disastrous. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, there are two ways that Home Depot color-matches paint. One is to look up the formula on their computer, and the other is to scan the paint chip. In this instance, they scanned my paint chip. There may have been more accurate results had they looked up the formula instead.

You can see here that I still have a lot of painting to do. {I need scaffolding to reach the lofty area} but I love that even though grey is a subtle change from my previous color, it adds a coolness and sophistication that I was longing for. My home feels much more ME now. I can't wait to move on to the kitchen cabinets...

P.S. Half the struggle of choosing paint was wanting to love the name of the paint as well. Revere Pewter? Ozark Shadows? Not nearly as romantic as Stormy Monday or Gray Owl. So I've decided that since my paint is significantly different than Revere Pewter, I get to name it myself. I'm calling it Melancholy Grey. :)

Love the color! Our entry and living room are two stories high, and we ran into the same predicament with painting the tall areas. Since we don't have scaffolding, we put socks on the tops of an extendable ladder to prevent scratching the walls and leaned it up against the wall to do the painting. This worked for us, even though it's a little nerve-wracking to be that high on a ladder. Just thought I'd offer another option in case you're having a hard time getting scaffolding. Good luck with the project!

Looks great! You are brave to do the whole thing yourself even the high stuff.

I've had some terrible color matching experiences...that need painting over. Glad that didn't happen to you.

Love it!! That's the color I'm wanting to do in my bedroom soon. I'll have to come see it in person :)

I would totally buy a paint color bearing your moniker. And it looks fab!

Wow, your own paint color....it looks fabulous. After five years I still can't pick a paint color I like, I freeze up at the thought of making a choice.

I also, want to do my entry way with revere pewter. Its compliments the bright white crown molding that is through my home. I have not painted any room's just yet but I too have the extended ladder with socks. Its very scary to paint that entry way!
