Turning Japanese

I picked up a few Japanese treats while at World Market the other day. I have fond childhood memories of the botan rice candy {The wrapper melts in your mouth!} and I wanted to see how the kids would react to the ramune drink, which has a marble as a stopper.

To open it, you have to push the marble down into the bottle. The neck narrows, suspending the marble mid-bottle where it rolls around, providing endless entertainment as you consume the sugary beverage.

It was a big hit. They found the marble to be wildly fascinating and spent more time trying to remove it than they did actually drinking the soda.

Which was fine with me. {It tastes like a melted popsicle anyway.}

Good clean sticky fun.

Edit: in light of the tragic earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan on Friday, my thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese people at this time.

I will be singing that song in my head all day now and imagining that last picture of your son with his sideways smile - looks like an ad from the 50's with his little plaid shirt. Swoon.

We live here in Japan and my kids love the "marble drink". They pull the whole bottle apart to get the marble. We have so many of those marble around our house. ;)
