Sssssss

Last week, Nana and I took the kids to the local library to see The Reptile Man as part of the Summer Reading Program. While Nana quickly sequestered herself in a corner of the library {she is deathly afraid of snakes} the children sat front and center. Their attentiveness paid off-- E was one of the lucky few chosen to help hold the 11 foot python {above}. It cracks me up that he's the only kid cold enough to wear a coat. That's my Arizona boy!

Little Miss C {laughing at the girl wearing a boa constrictor} was interviewed by a reporter for The Olympian, and made it into this mornings paper! She was quoted as saying, "It was really cool to get to touch them and actually pet them. The snake felt scaly and smooth." E also contributed, saying, "I've always wanted to touch one. It felt  like a rubber one!"

L's favorite part was the desert tortoise, who crawled off the sidewalk and parked himself in the lush grass for a snack. We have neighbors that own a pet tortoise, but I bet it's never had grass that green before!

It was an awesome {free!} event, and thanks to Steve Bloom, the photographer for The Olympian, I actually have photos to remember it by. :)

That python is HUGE. I think I might have felt a little uncomfortable being there. Maybe I'd go find a book with your mom! What fun for brave kids!

So cool! Yuma library lacks such quality programs for their summer reading activities. If you come visit us sometime, we can show you some more snakes (although quite a bit smaller than that python) and other reptiles.

I love the Reptile Man! He visited my kids elementary school multiple times when we lived in the Seattle area. Enjoy the rest of your visit!!

I'll be perfectly honest with you, I'm with Nana! Snakes just creep freak me out....don't like them, don't want to be near them.
