Run For Your Lives!

While researching and registering for the races I want to run in the next few months, I stumbled upon this rad run; Advertised as one part 5k, one part obstacle course, one part escaping the clutches of zombies-- and all parts awesome. I am psyched!

The closest one is scheduled for next October in San Diego. I foresee a special trip to California in order to participate. {You in, Pip?}

In the meantime, I'm feeling strong. I'm halfway through training for the 1/2 marathon in January, and I have a race every month leading up to it. {I'm planning on running in the 12k's of Christmas race for the first time, and am pretty happy about it.}

Anyone else ever run in an unusual or themed race? Do you have a favorite? I'm usually such a loner of a runner that races are kind of a new, social aspect of fitness that I'm really digging. :)

I'm SO down!! I'll be 8.5-ish months post partum so I shouldn't be intimidated to run next to you AND an obstacle course - sounds like my kind of run ;)
Thanks for thinking of me. Let's do it!
And good job on the training. Didn't know you were thinking of a half, even though that doesn't come as a surprise. Ever think of doing a triathlon?? Oceanside has one in aug that I want to train for after baby. You should think about it...

What a fun idea! It would never even occur to me that such things could exist! Same with the 12ks of Christmas. Loo, people are so inventive.

I don't know what i think of these types of social togetherness. i'm a hermit. Yet I did really enjoy the sense of community when we'd watch S and C play basketball and hear other people rooting for them. I remember when Spanish Lady & Jones took us to the Yankees vs Mariners game, though, and how surprised I was that that whole High School world still existed. It was fun, but really alien. Yet I'm totally for the shared experience of movie viewing...

I live in San Diego. I had no idea there was going to be a Zombie 5k. Now I have to find some people to run with. And I have to figure out how to actually run 5k without dying! 1 year to train, I can do it!

Thanks for posting about this! My husband's reaction when I read it to him was, "Sweeeeeeet". He's a zombie enthusiast (reading Poe and Lovecraft is his idea of relaxing before he goes to sleep--eeeps!).

I haven't done any themed races, but I just did a Halloween fun run (2.5 miles) with the whole group dressed in costume. Everyone we passed cheered us on, and it was so much fun!

I love the theme ideas: brings out the non-runners or the not-running runners too!
