Necklace Making

For the last few months, Tuesday nights have been reserved for our at-home Financial Peace University courses with Dave Ramsey. I call it our Date with Dave, and have a sort of love/hate relationship with it. I love getting on the same page w/ J as far as our finances go, especially since we were raised with drastically different views on money. But I'm a morning person, and by 6 p.m. my brain and patience are absolutely fried. It takes every ounce of discipline I have to sit down at 8 p.m. and devote my precious free time to listening to Dave drone on and on, no matter how much I agree with him.

This time, I gathered up some old necklaces and jewelry findings and decided to cannibalize them to make something new. I figured the creativity would take a bit of the sting out of losing my evening to Dave. ;)

Obviously, it was evening and I was already multitasking, so I dropped the ball when it came to taking before or in-progress photos, but here is a great tutorial on necklace making. I still have quite a bead stash, so I'm sure I'll be making more.

Do you handle finances with your spouse, or do one of you naturally take charge? I'm surprised at how much I had to let go of control in order to budget together. :) Jewelry making is so much more fun!

I heart everything about this necklace. I don't heart everything about budgeting.

My husband takes care of our finances, but I have a general idea of what is going on. What we actually did a while ago was give me a monthly budget of $1200 and out of that I had to buy groceries and all other incidentals (if new tires had to be bought, doctor bills, birthdays, needed new shoes, save for vacation, pay to have air conditioning repaired, etc) and we did pretty awesome with that. I was couponing and hunting around for the best deals to stretch my grocery money even further. Then I got a new job and my time to actually sit and keep up with this stuff pretty much went away. We are selling our entirely too big for us house and opted for a house a fourth of the price that we can actually PAY OFF completely once we close on our other house in a couple of weeks. Hallelujah! Then we are going to tighten our belts and take back control of our finances.

That's amazing! Paying off our house someday is a big dream of mine -- especially since our income would feel that much bigger if we didn't have a mortgage to pay. ;) congrats!
