Paint Chips

Who knew that picking out a paint color would be so difficult? Especially a neutral like gray. Honestly, I expected to choose from two or three favorites, paint a swatch or two on the wall, compare in varying lights and voila! there would be a winner. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

Oh, my naïveté is laughable now! I have sifted through an entire shopping bag full of paint chips. I've gone through at least four sample sized cans of paint. Swatches have been hung on the wall, on the cabinets, next to trim, next to countertops; at all times of day and in both natural and artificial light.

Too green. Too brown. Too purple. Too blue. It makes the trim look yellow. It contrasts with the countertops. All this nitpicking, all this scrutiny of the subtle nuances, and in the end my 'perfect' color will be subject to the color-match machine at Home Depot. It's almost silly.

Fingers crossed, but I think I've found it. {Them, actually, since I'm painting the cabinets as well.} Benjamin Moore Cement Gray for the walls and Stormy Monday for the cabinets. Please, please, please be the right colors! I'm eager to be done with selecting and start on the actual painting

And when I'm done, I can recycle this shopping bag full of paint chips. :)

The selection process is excruciating, I agree...but, for me, the prep and painting part is equally trying. Glad you're looking forward to it. You're so close!

That larger than life paint chip propped up against the wall is AWESOME! I totally need one of those for the Queen. She and paint have a serious love/hate relationship going on!

Yes it's absolutely true, PAINT PICKING is my nemesis. I've been in my present house for 5 years and still can't pick the paint for the main floor of the house. I completely freeze up when I try to make the decision....I think because it's such a huge space and one I only want to paint once. I'm sure with your artistic eye you've made the right choice for your project and I can't wait to see the reults.

Happy to see that your bus has pulled back from the precipice.
