Un, deux, trois....

L is three years old today. He was born 2/8/2008 at 8:28 p.m. and weighed 8 pounds. {I love all those 2's and 8's-- I also love his somber expression in this photo, though it's a rare one for him.}

Three is such a bittersweet age. In some ways he's still so little; he sleeps with a pacifier and his favorite blanket, he's eager to snuggle when he's tired or sad and he has a sweet babyish way of talking...

 ...but in other ways it's clearly evident that he's swiftly becoming an independent little boy. He loves to help. He wants to do things himself, in his own time and in his own way. He's always stretching himself to try and keep up with everything his older brother E does, often oblivious to E's irritation...

 He's tender towards baby R, adoring his new role as the Big Brother.

 He's exuberant and chatty and full of energy in a way that reminds me so much of his sister.

Just like E, he loves cars, trains, planes, rocks, dinosaurs, tractors, balls, bugs and dirt. He thinks the tall, white silos by the gravel pit are rocket ships and points them out every Sunday on our way to church.

He's so happy and easy to please. He rushes to the door to greet family members each time they come home, giddy and affectionate even when said family member has only been gone a few minutes.

He's dramatic and silly. He loves to be included when his brother and sister play, but when they're gone he can create an entire world of his own and occupy himself for hours.

One of his very first words was "scriptures" as he learned to fetch them for each family member when we had scripture study. He is learning to say prayers by himself and I love to hear his rambling, nonsensical conversations with Heavenly Father. And one of my favorite things about Monday nights is seeing his expression as he exclaims, "Fammy Hombe Ebning! {Family Home Evening}

No matter how big he gets, I still remember the way those big, blue eyes looked up at me moments after he was born. They still make my breath catch in my throat.

Happy Birthday, L. It's been a wonderful three years. :)

Wow! He looks so familiar in those baby pictures but the newer ones? He looks like he's seven! What a sweet and handsome boy! Happy birthday, L!

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but your boys could pass for triplets! At first I thought it was Baby R in the hat. Of course, this is a good thing since they look so much like your handsome hubby :)

Ohmigosh, look at that cleft in his chin! That is soooo Grandpa R! Is that where it came from or is there one on J's side as well?

I still can't believe he's 3, it's going so fast! Definitely time for a visit again. I hope you know your pictures are jaw dropping. They could be in a magazine.
